Lehde – a village straight out of a fairy tale. Waterways instead of roads, with pedestrian bridges that connect countless islands: fire brigade, post office, rubbish collection – they all come by punt, which is still the most important means of transport in Lehde. Once compared to Venice by Theodor Fontane, the entire village, is a listed site. At Lehde open-air museum, visitors can take a close look at three typical old Wendish farms typical of the Spreewald region. Children in particular will enjoy this, while adults will marvel at the medicinal and herb garden and the historical costumes. At the punt workshop you can find out about the ancient craft of punt building – a key element of the Spreewald’s distinctive flair. And just as it should be in the land of the gherkin: Lehde pays tribute to the region's best-loved delicacy with a gherkin and farm museum. It is housed in a former gherkin-processing plant and offers ample opportunity for tasting all the different variations of this delicious speciality.
