Industrial culture

The historic Peitz ironworks is located directly on the Peitz ponds: it is one of the most important technical monument sites in Brandenburg. It was founded in around 1550 in connection with the construction of the fortifications and ponds, including the Hammergraben. The most valuable building is the blast furnace and foundry hall and still survives in its original form as built in 1810: this is now open to visitors as a technical museum. Here, local bog iron was processed into wrought iron and used to make castings for household, commercial and military applications. Smelting operations in Peitz were discontinued in the middle of the 19th century.
The former moulding shop in the factory now houses the fishing museum. For visitors, there is a large pond diorama, an aquarium, several exhibits and lots of interesting things to find out about Peitz's tradition-steeped pond industry.

An exhibition of minerals and fossils, an exhibition on the theme of water and the exhibition “Woodstock am Karpfenteich – Free Jazz in der GDR” complete the wide spectrum of the museum.
a nature trail through the pond area completes the offer for visitors.
