The lake Gräbendorfer See is a former open-cast quarry and its final water level was reached in May 2007. A sunken forest and various species of fish, such as perches, pikes and carps, can be found in the water. Lake Gräbendorfer See is characterised by its excellent water quality, fine sandy beach and a wide range of recreational activities offered locally.
A floating house on a pontoon that is accessible from the shore via a jetty, was created as the first piece of a project of the construction show ‘Internationale Bauausstellung (IBA) Fürst-Pückler-Land’. The lake is surrounded by an asphalted circular trail that is about nine kilometres long. Since 2015, it has been possible to camp on the shore of Gräbendorfer See (near Altdöbern), and to rent pedal boats, bicycles and surfboards.
