Away from the classic tourist cycling routes, we recommend a round trip through the green areas of Cottbus. The tour is ideal for exploring the city in more depth. From the CottbusService at the centre of the city, the tour goes along the Spree to the Spreewehrmühle with its mill museum and restaurant. The next stop place to stop is the sports and swimming centre Sport- und Freizeitbad Lagune, before passing by allotment gardens and meadows in the Cottbus district of Ströbitz to the meadows of Sachsendorf. This is a nice place for a quiet stop. Via Groß Gaglow and Kikebusch, you then approach the church of St. Martin in Madlow and the Cottbus park area. From a distance you might hear the elephants in Cottbus zoo or the signals from the park railway. In any case, be sure to visit the princely palace and park in Branitz. Anyone looking for a little more peace and relaxation will want to stop off in Spreeauenpark – the site of the 1995 Federal Horticultural Exhibition – and enjoy the view over the meadows to the Parkweiher (insider tip: tertiary forest with sequoia tree stumps). Via Sandow, the route then continues along the River Spree toward the city centre and back to the starting point.
