A wide range of fish species live in the Spree – the river that gives its name to the Spreewald. Ever since the Spreewald was first settled by human beings, numerous ponds have been created for fish farming. Carp, pike, zander, perch, catfish and trout all flourish here, to name but a few. The tour leads both through this unique pond landscape, along the river and past numerous fish restaurants, where cyclists can enjoy fresh fish prepared according to Spreewald typical recipes.
